I have an iMac running OS 10.13.6 and was able to use the Apple Disk Utility to format the Easystore drive for a Mac. I then did a OS X restore onto the Easystore drive from a WD 512GB Flash Card I use for Time Machine Backups (i.e. hold Command - R after restart and choose the Easystore Drive as the destination drive for the restore). That gives you a second bootable hard drive with a copy of all your content on it. The restart required to complete the restore process will boot the computer up from the Easystore drive. I was surprised that running the iMac from the USB external drive seemed to be as fast as using the internal drive. In the preferences folder, I reset the Startup Drive back to the internal drive and restarted using that drive. The point being, it is great to have a fully bootable drive with all your content on it, just in case your internal drive ever crashes irreparably. You won't lose the functionality of your computer, or your content, if that happens. The 5 TB drive would actually be a nice step up from the 1 TB internal drive that came with the computer. This is an awesome, must-have product, if you truly value your iMac and your content.
